Local Crime Update 15/12/2022

Dear Residents

Please find below the crime record for the period from 1st to 15th December 2022.

Overall low crime rate, with many of the days between 01/12/22-15/12/22 having no crime recorded. The recent theft from motor vehicle offence reported in Pickhurst Park is a timely reminder not to leave valuable items in unattended vehicles overnight.  Also the burglary earlier this month in Farnaby Road shows that sadly you don’t need to be out long for a burglary to occur.

While on the subject of burglary, as this is my last crime update before Christmas, I’ll remind you again not to leave packaging from expensive gifts visible on your driveway.  Please ensure they go in the appropriate bin or take them to a recycling centre.

I spoke to the victim of the mattress theft in Park Hill Road earlier.  She mentioned this happened regularly at her previous address in another part of the borough.  I’ve noticed that this has increased on Shortlands and Park Langley over the last few months.  It is always best, if you’re not in, to have your parcel left at a neighbouring address rather than on your doorstep.  This is worth passing on to family and friends regardless of where they live.

Another repeated reminder I’m afraid – when out and about in busy areas remember to keep your valuables where possible in an inside or zippable pocket.  Do not carry in an open back pocket.  Also carry your handbag or manbag across your body not loosely on one shoulder.  These precautions should substantially reduce the chances of your valuables being stolen enabling you to enjoy your day and/or evening out.

On a lighter note, I’m hoping to do a fair bit of community engagement next week and may be able to get colleagues to join me.  Hopefully I’ll be popping into St Mary’s Church on Wednesday 21/12/22 for the community café Christmas party and may also be there on Sunday after the morning service.  On Monday I hope to be at the Shortlands Library Christmas party and will be holding a cuppa with a copper session on Thursday 22/12/22 from 4pm to 5pm.  In addition, we will be out patrolling, making visits and chatting to people we see out and about.

Hope to see some of you over the next week.

Thanks as always for your help and support.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas.

Kind regards

Adam
