05 Sep Local Crime Update 31/08/2023
Dear Residents
Please find below the crime record for the period from 16th August to 31st August.
Very pleasing to see no burglaries over the last fortnight or thefts from motor vehicle. Worrying to see a road get hit with three vehicle interferences in one night. Let’s hope we don’t see anything like this again. Aside from this there was only one other motor vehicle interference in the last fortnight. Unfortunately there were four thefts of vehicles. Definitely worth thinking about is a steering wheel lock and/or a Faraday Case.
A couple of pointers re the phone thefts in Shortlands Village and Queensmead Rec. Never put your phone down on a surface such as a counter or a table. Sadly the distraction while covering the surface with a piece of paper has been going on for a long time and happened very frequently during my first few years with the Met when I worked in Central London. If your phone is in your handbag make sure you keep your bag in a position where you can see it even when it is on your shoulder or across your body.
Regarding parcel thefts when it comes to delivery options DO NOT choose the leave on the doorstep option if you’re out as this makes it easy for thieves to steal your parcel and could even lead to your house being broken into as it gives a clear indication that your house is probably unoccupied.
On the community engagement side we very much enjoyed visiting the summer club at St Mark’s School where we talked to the children about road safety and stranger danger and gave the children the opportunity to ask questions about policing in general. It was great to be able to get to the post service coffee at St Mary’s Church today and chat to residents. We’re looking forward to engaging with the local primary schools as the new term begins and I’m looking forward to returning to cadets in a few weeks. Our next Cuppa with a Copper Event is on Thursday 14/09/23 at Costa Coffee, Westmoreland Road from 4pm to 5pm.
Thanks as always for your help and support.
