04 Dec Local Crime Update 30/11/2023
Dear Residents
Please find below the crime record for the period from 15th November to 30 November ’23.
Unfortunately Cadogan Close was hit hard for burglary yesterday (29/11/23). Officers attended at the time they were discovered and I will be carrying out follow up visits next week. During the winter the window of opportunity for burglars increases. If a house is in darkness when it is dark in the late afternoon and early to mid evening this is a sign to burglars that the property could be empty. Timer switches for electrical devices are a very good way of giving the impression that a house is occupied when it’s empty.
Vehicle crime both theft of and theft from continues to be a problem. Remember not to leave valuable items in unattended vehicles and try to have screw on rather than stick on number plates. Also consider purchasing a foil pouch to keep your keys in to prevent cloning devices reading them and/or a steering wheel lock. Electric gates and posts are also very useful.
On the community engagement side, PC Chris Brown and I, along with Councillor Adam Grant attended the Shortlands Residents Association Road Safety meeting on Saturday 18/11/23. It was nice to see some familiar faces and meet some new people. Although our roads are generally safe on Shortlands & Park Langley Ward, it’s always good for residents, Councillors and police to get together to ensure this stays the case. We hope to carry out a traffic check operation in December but unfortunately, as many of you are aware, sometimes abstractions for other duties prevent this so I won’t make any promises I can’t keep.
Hopefully I can attend the community café at St Mary’s Church next Wednesday but I have another pre-arranged visit first so, again, can’t guarantee it. Our next Cuppa With A Copper session will be on Monday 11/12/23 from 4pm to 5pm at Costa Coffee, Westmoreland Road.
Thanks as always for your help and support.
Adam
