Dear Residents,

Please find below the crime record for the period from 1st Aug to 15 Aug 2025.

Unfortunately, we’ve been hit quite hard with thefts of motor vehicles in the last fortnight. One of the victims did have their key in a Faraday case.

I’ve also noticed that more thefts of motor vehicle has started to take place during the daytime recently.  I’m beginning to wonder if steering wheel locks are a better bet than Faraday Cases if you’re only going to purchase one of the two.  A pole or a gate at the access point to your driveway are also worth considering.

On the community engagement side, we held a Cuppa with A Copper session on Friday 15/08/25 where I enjoyed some nice chats with residents.

I’m hoping to attend the community café at St Mary’s Church this Wednesday (20/08/25) and post service tea & coffee on Sunday 24/08/25, also at St Mary’s Church.

Our next two Cuppa with A Copper session will be on Thursday 21/08/25 from 10am to 11am & Friday 29/08/25 from 4pm to 5pm.  Both will be at Costa Coffee, Westmoreland Road.

We’ve also arranged a drop-in surgery on Saturday 06/09/25 from 10am to 11am at Shortlands Library.

Shortlands Crime Record 01/08/25-15/08/25

Theft from Motor Vehicle:

  1. 03/08/25 Overnight.  Kingswood Avenue.  Passenger window of van smashed with hammer & chisel.  Nothing stolen.
  2. 04/08/25 Late afternoon-05/08/25 mid morning Ravensbourne Avenue.  Dashcam stolen.

 

Theft of Motor Vehicle:

  1. 07/08/25 Early evening-08/08/25 early morning.  Kingswood Road.  Vehicle stolen from driveway.  Black Lexus.
  2. 08/08/25 Overnight.  Elwill Way.  Grey Audi Q8 stolen from driveway.
  3. 12/08/25 Mid afternoon.  Madeira Avenue.  Vehicle parked on road stolen.  White Lexus Estate.  Suspects seen tampering with front wheel before getting in vehicle & driving it away.  It’s believed that this is a way of tampering with the vehicle’s electrics in order to gain entry.
  4. 15/08/25 Overnight.  Station Road.  Vehicle stolen from driveway.  Grey Audi RD5.
  5. 15/08/25 Late morning-early evening.  Queen Anne Avenue.  Vehicle stolen from road.  Black Ford Focus.

 

Theft:

  1. 08/08/25 Mid evening.  Westmoreland Road.  Large amount of alcohol stolen from off licence.
  2. 31/07/25 (Reported late).  Items stolen from mobility scooter parked in communal area of flats.

 

Burglary:

  1. 08/08/25-09/08/25 Overnight.  Brabourne Rise.  Garage door forced open.  Mountain bike stolen.
  2. 08/08/25 Mid afternoon-11/08/25 early morning.  Valley Road.  Electrical cables stolen from building site.

 

Vehicle Interference:

  1. 10/08/25 Late afternoon-11/08/25 early morning.  Newbury Road.  Victim started engine & dashboard computer showed someone had tried to start the vehicle.  Also found a window open.
  2. 11/08/25 Mid evening.  Barnfield Wood Road.  Two males climbed into cab of van parked in golf club car park.  Disturbed by vehicle’s owner & fled.
