Dear Residents,

Please find below the crime record for the period from 15th August to 5th September 2026.

Unfortunately, we’ve had quite a few thefts of motor vehicle during this period. Very pleased to see that two were recovered by tracker.  I can’t remember whether it was of the two victims on this report or a previous report that mentioned they had a discreet tracker in their vehicle that the suspects couldn’t see.  In recent months quiet a few stolen vehicles have had their trackers ripped so this could be worth looking into.

The other big concern over this period has been fraud offences which seem to be on the increase again.  Full details are on the attachment. Remember your bank would never phone & ask for your PIN or send a courier round to collect a card that is no longer valid.  Similarly, regarding the council tax scam call, unpaid council tax would never be collected in this way.

On the community engagement side, we’ll be hosting a Cuppa With A Copper session on Friday 11/09/26 from 10am to 11am.  The venue will be Costa Coffee, Westmoreland Road.  I’m also hoping to pop into the community café at St Mary’s Church on Wednesday (09/09/26). Hope to see some of you there. Thanks as always for your help & support.

Shortlands Crime Record 15/08/26-05/09/26

 

Theft of Motor Vehicle:

  1. 14/08/26 Early evening- 15/08/26 early morning.  Waldron Gardens.  Vehicle stolen from driveway despite keys being in Faraday case.  Vehicle recovered by victims in Sydenham via tracker.  Unfortunately it was damaged.  White Honda CRV.
  2. 14/08/26 Early evening- 15/08/26 overnight.  Pickhurst Park.   Vehicle stolen from driveway.   White Honda CRV.
  3. 18/08/26-19/08/26 Overnight.  River Park Gardens.  Vehicle stolen from outside victim’s house.  Black Nissan Juke.
  4. 21/08/26 Early evening.  Ravensbourne Avenue.  Motorcycle stolen from golf club car park.  White Honda WW.
  5. 22/08/26 Late evening.  Beckenham Grove.  Vehicle stolen from street outside victim’s home.  Recovered in Sydenham after victim checked tracker.  Bronze Nissan Navara.
  6. 26/08/26 Mid evening.  St Mary’s Avenue.  Delivery van stolen.  Driver had left keys in ignition while delivering to house.  Fortunately, he was able to track the vehicle to Westmoreland Road.  Vehicle found by police & returned to victim.
  7. 28/08/26 Overnight.  Wickham Way.  Silver Landrover stolen from driveway.   Some items from the vehicle were recovered on the unmade part of The Avenue, Beckenham.
  8. 28/08/26 Late evening-29/08/26 early morning.  Chiltern Gardens.  Vehicle stolen from driveway.  Grey Ford Focus.

 

Vehicle Interference:

  1. 17/08/26 Overnight.   Cadogan Close.   Suspects pulled away bumper & wheel arch.
  2. 25/08/26 Early afternoon.  Shortlands Grove.  Suspects drilled through bumper to try & access electrics.  Suspects fled on moped  after being disturbed by victim’s son.  Police attended following 999 call but were unable to find suspects.  Lexus NX.

 

Burglary:

  1. 21/08/26 Mid-afternoon.  Colebrooke Rose.  Parcel stolen from communal area of flats.
  2. 29/08/26 Early afternoon.  Pickhurst Lane.  Empty house under renovation broken into.  Suspect(s) climbed scaffolding & entered house through empty roof space.  Scrap metal stolen.  Both rear & front doors damaged.

 

Fraud:

  1. 22/08/26 Mid evening.  Station Road.  Young male in his mid 20s received several phone calls from someone claiming to be a police officer.  The caller told him he would be arrested if he didn’t pay his council tax.  After several calls the victim was persuaded to give his bank details.  He checked his account shortly afterwards & noticed withdrawals of £150 & £6.  Victim is in contact with his bank who he’s hoping will reimburse him.
  2. 31/08/26 Late morning.  Meadow Road.  Elderly female received telephone call from male claiming to be from her bank Santander.  He said she was due to have new bank cards, and they would be delivered by a courier.  He also asked for her PIN numbers.  The victim gave him the PINS for both cards.  He responded by saying he only needed the first two digits for each.   When the courier arrived, the victim was still on the phone.  The courier handed the victim an envelope which she assumed contained her new cards.  The courier asked to see the victim’s old bank cards.  He snatched them & ran off fleeing on a motorcycle.   The victim opened the envelope and found it contained a SIM card box.  Realising she’d been scammed she contacted Santander to block the cards.  Unfortunately, several hundred pounds had already been taken.  Police attended.  CCTV enquiries were carried out but none was available.  Informant was unable to get the motorcycle’s registration number.
  3. 02/09/26.  Mid-afternoon.  Scotts Lane.  Elderly female received calling from someone claiming to be from her bank.   They said she was due to receive a new card in a couple of days & would send a courier to collect her old one.  She handed the card to the courier & then realised it was a scam.  Fortunately, she was able to get the card blocked in time to prevent any money being taken.

 

Theft from Motor Vehicle:

  1. 28/08/26 Mid-morning.  Shortlands Grove.  Number plates stolen from vehicle.
  2. 29/08/26 Late evening-30/08/26 early afternoon.  Warren Avenue.  Front number plate stolen from vehicle.

 

Criminal Damage:

  1. 18/08/26-02/09/26.  Barnfield Wood Road.  Car tyres slashed.
