Shortlands Library’s temporary base in St Mary’s Church Friends’ Room is to open three days a week from 23rd October 2026. In addition to the current Mondays and Saturdays the Library will now also open on Fridays from 9.30am-1pm and 2-5.30pm.
There will also be additional activities like an adult reading group and a children’s playset reading group.
With the present building in Shortlands Road having been closed since January this year due to structural problems, St Mary’s will be hosting the Library at least up until February 2027. The Council are working with St Mary’s to create a better library space there for the short term, including the book stock collection for both adults and children and offering IT services (printing).
