Please find below the crime record for the period from 1st Nov to 15th Nov ‘24.

Recently there seems to have been an increase in cycle thefts and mobile phone snatches. Worryingly with the cycles that have been stolen, all were locked and two of them were in a locked shed.  The entry fob for the shed was broken to enable entry.  I can’t give specific advice re products but if do own a bicycle particularly an expensive one it could be worth reviewing your security.  The “secured by design” website is a good place to look and it’s also worth speaking to cycle shop. Re the mobile phone thefts if you need to use your phone in the street, I suggest you stop in a well-lit area and stand as far back from the road as possible as the suspects in the majority of these cases are on bicycles or motorcycles.

On the community engagement side, I hope to be at the community café at St Mary’s Church this Wednesday (20/11/24). We’ll be holding a Cuppa With A Copper Session this Thursday (21/11/24) from 4pm to 5pm. Our next drop in surgery’s at Shortlands Library on Saturday 30/11/24 from 10am to 11am. Hope to see some of you at these events.

SHORTLANDS CRIME RECORD 01/11/2024 – 15/11/2024

Theft from Motor Vehicle:

  1. 02/11/24 Overnight.  Lancaster Close.  Car boot opened.  Projector stolen.
  2. 04/11/24 Early evening-05/11/24 early morning.  Rucksack and clothing stolen from vehicle.  Newbury Road.
  3. 09/11/24 Early afternoon.  Bushey Way.  Bag stolen from vehicle.
  4. 09/11/24 Early afternoon.  Elwill Way.  Tools stolen from vehicle.  Rear and side doors left open.

Vehicle Interference:

  1. 02/11/24 Overnight.  Shortlands Gardens.  Suspect attempted to open car door.  Vehicle parked on road outside victim’s house.
  2. 11/11/24.  Overnight.  Elwill Way.  Suspects attempted to remove front bumper from victim’s vehicle.  May have been trying to steal the lights.  Toyota Rav.

Burglary:

  1. 01/11/24 Late evening-02/11/24 early morning.  Garage broken into.  Tools stolen.  Suspect(s) tried to break in through rooflight.  Unable to get in this way they broke a window and climbed in.  Several tools stolen.
  2. 13/11/24 Late evening-14/11/24 late morning.  Riverpark Gardens.  Two bicycles and pumps stolen from communal bike sheds at block of flats.

Theft of Motor Vehicle:

  1. 05/11/24 Late morning.  South Hill Road.  Car stolen from road outside victim’s flat.  Blue Ford B Max
  2. 05/11/24 Late morning-early afternoon.  Whitecroft Way. Van stolen from road outside victim’s client’s house.  Keys were taken from victim’s tool bag while he was working.
  3. 14/11/24 Early morning-early evening.  Ravensbourne Avenue.  Vehicle stolen from parking bays.  Ford Focus.

Theft:

  1. 05/11/24 Early evening.  Bromley Road.  Suspect on motorbike snatched phone from victim’s hand while she waited at bus stop.
  2. 13/11/24 Early evening.  Durham Avenue.  Suspect on bicycle snatched phone from victim’s hand as he walked along road.
  3. 13/11/24 Overnight.  Farnaby Road.  Milk stolen from doorstep.
  4. 15/11/24 Early morning-mid evening.  Shortlands Station Car Park.  Suspects broke lock and stole bicycle from cycle rack.
