07 Feb Local Crime Update 31/01/2025
Dear Residents
Please find below the crime record for the period from 16 Jan to 31st Jan 2025.
Unfortunately, during the last two weeks of January both Shortlands & Park Langley and Beckenham Town Centre & Copers Cope wards were hit hard for burglaries. All bar one of the burglaries were carried out by breaking rear windows. On most of them the suspect climbed through the broken windowpane, but with one of them the handle on the inside had not been locked so the suspect was able to reach in and open the window before climbing through. Remember to lock all doors and windows before leaving home. A suspect image has been obtained at several of these offences and this has been circulated. Fortunately, none of the victims were at home at the time. Remember most burglars knock on the front door first then head round to the back to find a way in if there’s no reply. As I’ve mentioned previously never pretend you’ve got an empty house. If you don’t feel comfortable opening the door there’s several other ways to answer – these include talking through the door, putting the door on the chain if you’ve got one or opening a window. If you’ve got a spyhole, use it before deciding whether or not to open the door. The safest place is to go to an upstairs window to call out. If the reason they give you for knocking on the door sounds suspicious then please call 999. If you’ve any concerns re home security, then please feel free to contact me as shown below.
Fortunately, motor vehicle crime was low over the last fortnight.
Yesterday officers from all four Safer Neighbourhood Teams carried out a combination of uniformed and plain clothes patrols in the vicinity of the Langley Park Schools. Some of us patrolled Hawksbrook Lane and others covered the area between the school and Eden Park station. Fortunately there were no incidents to report there’s been no robberies at the end or beginning of the school day this term.
Our next drop-in surgery will be on Friday 14/02/25 from 4pm to 5pm at Shortlands Library. Before that we’ll be holding a Cuppa With A Copper session on Monday 10/02/25 from 10am to 11am at Costa Coffee, Westmoreland Road. Hope to see some of you at these events.
Thanks as always for your help and support.
