13 Oct Westmoreland Road Garage Forecourt Thefts – Advice (Oct 26)
Recently there have been some incidents on the forecourt at the Esso Tesco Express, Westmoreland Road where victims have had their bank cards either cloned or stolen at either cashpoint. The suspect approaches and says they can help the victim and even if the victim doesn’t accept their offer will either distract them & take their card or press buttons on the machine to trap the card. Both these methods lead to victim’s thinking the machine has swallowed their card & has led to the suspect being able to take large sums of money from the victim’s account.
If you are approached in this way:
- Decline the offer of assistance
- If you are able to, press cancel & get your card back in your possession
If the suspect succeeds in trapping your card or snatching it:
- Call 999 immediately
& straight afterwards - Call your bank to cancel your card
Also call 999 if you succeed in keeping your card as it’s an attempted theft.
