Dear Residents,

 

Please find below the crime record for the period from 6th Sept to 18th Sept 2026.

Overall, the crime rates remained low. Worrying to see the two bank card related offences on the petrol station forecourt. Do not accept any unexpected help from strangers at bank machines.  Politely but firmly decline.  If they persist and you feel threatened withdraw to a place of safety and call 999.

 

Although there are no incidents needing a crime report, the team have recently been made aware of rogue traders turning up on doorsteps.  Their activities range from doing jobs on the spot & then charging large amounts for small bits of work, to carrying out surveys and giving false information to encourage people to give them work.  The elderly seem to be the most common targets. Fortunately, on the two most recent incidents I’ve come across, the victims have contacted their son or daughter who’ve seen through the scam and helped the victim stop it.

 

Very pleasing to see no burglaries during this period.

 

On the community engagement side our next drop-in surgery will be at Shortlands Library on Saturday 10/10/26 from 3pm to 4pm. It will be in the library’s temporary home in the Friends Room at St Mary’s Church, Kingswood Avenue.

Our next Ward Panel Meeting’s on Tuesday 20/10/26 at 730 pm, also in the Friends Room at St Mary’s Church.

Shortlands Crime Record 06/09/26-18/09/26

 

Theft of Motor Vehicle:

  1. 08/09/26.  Early morning.  Elwill Way.  Vehicle stolen from driveway.  Blue BMW 530 Saloon
  2. 09/09/26.  Overnight.  Woodmere Way.  Vehicle stolen from driveway.   Grey BMW 530 Estate.
  3. 17/09/26-18/09/26 Overnight.  St Mary’s Avenue.  Vehicle stolen from driveway.  Blue Ford Kuga

 

Theft from Motor Vehicle:

  1. 09/09/26 Mid evening-10/09/26 Early morning.  Celtic Avenue.  Van broken into.  Tools stolen.  Thieves decided they didn’t want some of the tools and abandoned them in alleyway near victim’s house.

 

Theft:

  1. 09/09/26 Late morning.  Petrol station forecourt, Westmoreland Road.  Victim had put her card in petrol pump & began to fill her car up.  A male approached saying he could help her.  While the victim’s back was turned, he took her card out the pump.  Fortunately, the victim noticed, turned round & shouted at the suspect.  Suspect dropped card & walked away.  Victim was concerned that her card may have been cloned so she cancelled it
  2. 09/09/26 Late morning.  Petrol station forecourt, Westmoreland Road.  Victim was making a cash withdrawal when a male started trying to distract him talking about how a second card could be used to retrieve a card stuck in a machine.  Victim told suspect to stand back but, due to being distracted, walked off without his card or money.  He was later told that two separate large withdrawals had been made from his account.

 

Criminal Damage:

  1. 07/09/26-17/09/26.  Barnfield Wood Road.  Car tyres slashed on three occasions.  Unsure if this is criminal damage or being done by animals.
