DRAFT SHORTLANDS VILLAGE CONSERVATION AREA PLANNING GUIDANCE PUBLISHED

The long awaited Shortlands Village Conservation Area Supplemental Planning Document has just gone out to consultation, with responses required by 3 March. The supplemental guidance is part of the London Borough of Bromley’s Appraisal of the Conservation Area and Management Plan.

The SRA has been pressing for this guidance for some time. Since the Village Conservation Area was established in 2022 there have been difficulties for householders in the Area wishing to make changes to their properties, because ground rules have changed and their planning obligations have become more complex.

So, the new Document clarifies their new obligations and should ensure householders have a clearer idea of what they can/cannot do to their property if they live in Shortlands Village Conservation Area.

Topics covered in the Management Plan section towards the end of the Document range from siting and designing a new development, to extensions, and doors and windows.

The SRA will be making its own formal response to the consultation, which we shall put up on our website, but some of you may wish to do so, too. Does it cover the ground? Is it clear enough?

A copy of the consultation document can be downloaded below. Any responses should be addressed by email to ldf@bromley.gov.uk or in writing to Head of Planning Policy and Strategy, London Borough of Bromley, Churchill Court, 2 Westmoreland Road, Bromley BR1 1AS. The Council is also holding an online meeting on this and a number of similar draft guidances on 26 February from 6.30-8pm on Teams.
