Local Crime Update 14/12/2024

Dear Residents

Please find below the crime record for the period from 1st December to 14th December ‘24.

Although overall the crime rate remains low it was very worrying to see an aggravated burglary take place.   Fortunately, I’m very glad to say that the victim recovered fairly quickly from his injuries. During the longer nights of winter, if you’re in, make sure you’re showing enough light to make it clear to any potential burglar that people are in. If you’re not in, consider investing in timer switches to give the impression you’re are in.  Some of you may remember that a similar offence occurred in Beckenham Grove at the end of last month.  Again, there was only one light on and because it was at the rear the flat it appeared empty from the road.

Also worrying to see an attempted fraud.  I’m very pleased that the victim realised that he was being asked inappropriate questions and reported it.  It could have been worse especially as the victim had reported an issue to Sky and was expecting them to call back.  Remember never give out your bank details over the phone no matter how genuine the caller seems.  You can always hang up and call the company they say they are from.  If the company confirm they hadn’t contacted you then please report to Action Fraud and the Police.

On Friday 06/12/24, Shortlands & Park Langley and Beckenham Town & Copers Cope SNTs held a joint speeding and traffic operation.  We set up stop sites on Shortlands Road, Farnaby Road and Worsley Bridge Road.  We were able to get hold of a speed gun.  One person was given words of advice re slightly exceeding the speed limit but did not meet the threshold for a speeding ticket.  Everyone was wearing their seatbelt and nobody was using a phone while driving.

On the community engagement side, I’m hoping to attend the community café at St Mary’s Church on Wednesday 18/12/24. We’ll be holding a Cuppa With A Copper session on Thursday 19/12/24 from 10am to 11am at Costa Coffee, Westmoreland Road.  Our first drop-in surgery of 2025 will be on Saturday 04/01/25 from 10am to 11am. Venue to be advised.

A reminder that the next Ward Panel meeting will be on Tuesday 07/01/25 at 7.30pm in the Friends Room at St Mary’s Church. Look forward to seeing some of you at these events.

I’d like to finish by wishing you all a Merry Christmas.  Remember to be careful when out and about celebrating.  Don’t drink and drive and make sure you book taxis well in advance and be aware of last bus and train times. Thanks as always for your help and support.

Kind regards
Adam
