21 Sep Local Crime Update 17/09/2023
Dear Residents
Please find below the crime record for the period from 1st to 17th September .
Good to see theft of motor vehicles appears to be decreasing and the burglary rate remains low. Worrying to see that theft from motor vehicles has increased slightly. People appear to have slipped back into the habit of leaving valuable items in unattended vehicles overnight. Sadly, due to the criminal activities of a small minority, I strongly advise against this.
Regarding the two recent phone thefts I would advise that if you need to use your phone when out and about, to stop and stand still or sit down on a bench. When standing, don’t get totally engrossed in your phone and lose awareness of who and what’s around you.
On the community engagement side, we’ve recently held a Cuppa with a Copper session at Costa Coffee, Westmoreland Road, a drop in at Shortlands Library and visited the church for after service coffee. The next Cuppa with a Copper session at Costa Coffee, Westmoreland will be on Thursday 28/09/23 from 4pm to 5pm. We’ve also got our next Ward public Panel Meeting in the Friends Room at St Mary’s Church at 7.30pm on Tuesday 03/10/23 & another drop in surgery at Shortlands Library, Shortlands Road on Saturday 07/10/23 from 10am to 11am. I’m going to try and visit the community café at St Mary’s Church next Wednesday 27/09/23. Hope to see some of you at these events.
All being well next week, I’ll be back at cadets giving young people the opportunity to learn about policing which I find very rewarding.
Thanks as always for your help and support.
