Bromley Community Sustainability Hub

Parisa Wright, local solicitor, mother and founder of Greener & Cleaner Bromley and Beyond, was invited to speak about the charity’s Community Sustainability Hubs project at the Urban Design Summit of COP26 in Glasgow last year. The project was lauded by academics and urban designers alike.

The Hub, hosting a Library of Things, is coming to The Glades in Bromley early this year – fit out is taking place over the next few weeks and it is hoped that the Hub will be open by the end of February! The Hub will be an exciting and engaging space for people to come and learn more about how they can help protect our environment. The Library of Things will also help Bromley residents to save and reduce waste by affordably renting out useful items like carpet cleaners, sound systems and sewing machines.

The Library of Things will offer over 30 useful household, DIY and gardening items for residents to borrow for as little as a few pounds per day. Residents will be able to reserve items online ready to collect from a self-service kiosk in the Hub at the Glades shopping centre.

Staffed by Greener and Cleaner volunteers, the Hub will also be used to host events, workshops, talks and local meet-ups, encouraging people to share practical skills like DIY and repair with others in the community. The Hub will be a vibrant community space where people can learn new skills, find information and advice, and borrow things to encourage a sharing economy.

Parisa is looking for local volunteers who would be interested in helping us run the Hub. No prior experience is necessary and full training will be given. There is a form for people to register interest here: Hub volunteer survey
