Local Crime Update 15/07/2021

Dear Residents

Hope you’re all well.

Please find below the crime record for the period from 1st July to 15th July.

Very pleasing to see no burglaries or thefts from motor vehicles. Excellent news that both vehicles stolen from resident’s driveways were recovered.  So pleased that a vigilant resident noticed that the vehicle stolen from Durham Avenue looked out of place and contacted police.  This resulted in the arrest of five suspects who were in the vehicle and the owner getting their vehicle back. I know many of you make similar calls to us about suspicious vehicles.  The fast majority of vehicles are not lost or stolen but, as a small minority are, shows how important such reports are to us.

Regarding the vehicle stolen in Top Park we’re unsure whether the damage to the electrics had made the suspects panic as it may have caused the vehicle to make a sound or they had seen the vehicle’s owner running out his front door.  The owner himself found the vehicle when he went out for a walk in the morning.

Following a recent speed check in Wickham Way, 6 drivers were stopped for driving over 30mph. In other nearby areas, a ticket was issued to one driver for using a mobile phone and 4 more drivers stopped for speeding.

On a happier note, I’m delighted to say that we’re now able to do community engagement again.  This month I’ve visited the Wednesday coffee morning at St Mary’s Church twice and will be holding a resident’s drop-in surgery on Monday from 4pm to 5pm at Shortlands Library.  I also popped into the church grounds today to say hello to the toddler group.

As more restrictions lift next week, I hope you’re all able to enjoy yourselves.  Although social distancing and mask wearing may no longer be mandatory there will still be many occasions when it’s advisable or businesses such as shops & transport operators make it a condition of entry.

Thanks very much as always for your help and support.

Kind Regards
